Call your mother once a week.
The Christmas season is a good time to call old friends. With cell phones, the cost is often nothing. I dialed up an old friend last week. She was surprised to hear from me. We had a great visit, as though we had just talked the week before, not years before. We are both moms of adult children. We agreed that the world would be a better place if everyone called their mother once a week, especially if you live too far away to visit in person. I call my mother every Sunday morning. We can talk for an hour. We review our week and tell each the most insignificant details of ordinary events. If there is a big event, well, then the call may stretch out to two hours. My brother calls her every Wednesday night.
My son calls me once a week. He lives halfway around the world from me. I look forward to his call just like my mom looks forward to my call. Do you suppose my son calls me because he grew up knowing that I called my mom? See how that works.
So, that is my suggestion for this post. Call your mother. She will be happy. You will be happy. The world will be a better place.
