Greeting Cards

My birthday is coming up. I received a birthday card from my sister today. It was very funny. She is known in the family as the one who picks out the best greeting cards. No matter what the occasion or who the card is for, she hits the mark.

Tip for today: never underestimate the value of mailing a greeting card. Special occasion or not, store bought card or handmade, it really is the thought that counts. And we all want to be thought of on our birthday or anyday.

Call your mother once a week.

The Christmas season is a good time to call old friends. With cell phones, the cost is often nothing. I dialed up an old friend last week. She was surprised to hear from me. We had a great visit, as though we had just talked the week before, not years before. We are both moms of adult children. We agreed that the world would be a better place if everyone called their mother once a week, especially if you live too far away to visit in person. I call my mother every Sunday morning. We can talk for an hour. We review our week and tell each the most insignificant details of ordinary events. If there is a big event, well, then the call may stretch out to two hours. My brother calls her every Wednesday night.

My son calls me once a week. He lives halfway around the world from me. I look forward to his call just like my mom looks forward to my call. Do you suppose my son calls me because he grew up knowing that I called my mom? See how that works.

So, that is my suggestion for this post. Call your mother. She will be happy. You will be happy. The world will be a better place.

My first posting

OK, I said I was going to do it and now I have. I set up my first blog. This is my first posting. Mike Sansone, www.CopywritingSolutions.com and www.CopywritingWatch.com, was the person who introduced me to blogging. Thanks, Mike. My friend, Nannette, www.virtualviva.com, is the person who introduced me to Mike. Thanks, Nannette.

I want this blog to be a way for anyone to "ask mom" for advice. I am glad to share the wisdom that I have gained after raising two children and living for almost 51 years. My birthday is this week, so I am feeling wise and important. Some people start to feel just plain old when a birthday rolls around, but I am glad to be alive for the event and consider it another year of learning that I am ready to share.

A lot of cultures value "elders" and seek advice from them. I have learned a lot from many people. Some were older and some were younger. I am ready to share with you!
